2. Academic Calendar
Educational process at the University in full-time and part-time study modes is conducted according to the semester system. The duration of the academic year is 52 weeks. There are 35 course weeks per year, 18 of them in the fall semester, 17 – in the spring semester. Three weeks are given per each test-examination session. Vacations – 11 weeks: 2 weeks in winter, 9 weeks in summer.

4. General Description of the University
Volodymyr Dahl East Ukrainian National University started its development on March 27, 1920, when the first higher educational institution in Donbass for training engineering for machine-building enterprises was created in Luhansk.
The current license allows Volodymyr Dahl East Ukrainian National University conducting educational activities for training bachelors in 61 specialities (directions), specialists – in 92 specialities, masters – in 93 specialities. Based on complete higher education, there is a master’s degree in public administration in speciality “Civil Service” to prepare managerial staff for state administration bodies. Centre for advanced training, retraining and improvement, retrains specialists on the basis of higher education in accredited 45 specialities and 17 training directions; trains professionals in all specialities accredited at the University and retrains teachers under the existing license.
Volodymyr Dahl East Ukrainian National University is one of the leaders of inventive activity in Ukraine. Currently, the University has 175 patents of the USA, Germany, France, Canada, China and other countries, and more than 2,000 patents of Ukraine.
Volodymyr Dahl East Ukrainian National University is the first university in Luhansk oblast, which became a full partner of the Erasmus Mundus “HERMES” project.
Today, Volodymyr Dahl East Ukrainian National University has more than 60 agreements with foreign universities, research institutes and other organizations. These include universities and institutes of Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Algeria, Germany, Canada, Finland, France, Hungary, Japan, the United States and other countries (20 countries in total). Examples of long-term fruitful cooperation of V. Dahl EUNU are collaboration with the School of Economics in Bremen (Germany), Technical University of Sofia (Bulgaria), Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology (Pakistan), Alexander Dubcek University (Slovakia), Otto-von-Guericke University Magdeburg (Germany) and other educational institutions worldwide.
Improvement of quality and efficiency of education, combination of scientific research and educational process at all levels of training, development of scientific schools, collaboration with international scientific and educational centres and foundations, formation of innovative infrastructure and commercialization of research results are the main priorities of Volodymyr Dahl East Ukrainian National University, ensuring its credibility and recognition now and augmenting its prestige in future.
5. List of Educational Programmes Offered by the University
The University offers a wide range of educational programmes at the first level (bachelor programmes) and at the second level of higher education (specialist and master programmes). Volodymyr Dahl East Ukrainian National University also postgraduate studies to train PhDs and doctoral studies to train Doctors of Sciences. 6. General Requirements for Admission
Admission to the University is carried out by the Admissions Committee according to the Admissions Rules, developed according to the Conditions of Admission to Higher Educational Institutions of Ukraine approved by the relevant order of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine. 7. General Registration Procedures
Electronic application may be submitted by applicants participating in the competitive selection on the basis of completed secondary education certificate, certificate (certificates) of external testing issued in 2016 in competitive subjects in accordance with the Conditions and Rules of Admission to Volodymyr Dahl East Ukrainian National University and have no basis for special conditions of admission. For filling e-application, entrants must register on the website http://ez.osvitavsim.org.ua
Applicants for junior bachelor's degree, bachelor’s degree (specialist in pharmaceutical direction) on the basis of completed secondary education for the full-time mode, except for persons eligible to participate in the competition according to the results of entrance examinations on the basis of completed secondary education (Chapter VIII of the Rules), admission by interview (Chapter X hereof) and admission by quotas (Chapter XI of the Rules), apply only in an electronic form. Entrants may submit up to five applications for fifteen specialities (specializations), which provide state order for full-time study. Application for speciality (specialization) of other forms of training, and without state order is not limited.
The Admissions Committee verifies reliability of data submitted by an applicant to participate in the competitive selection using the Single base. In case of electronic submission, the Admissions Committee checks the average score of the certificate of education based on its scanned copy (photocopy).
During admission of persons who submit a document of the academic degree (level) obtained abroad (hereinafter – the Document), there is a mandatory procedure for recognition and establishment of equivalency of the Document, which is carried out according to the Procedure of Recognition of Higher Education Degrees Obtained at Foreign Higher Educational Institutions approved by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine on May 5, 2015 №504, registered in the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine on May 27, 2015 №614/27059. Recognition procedure of the Document is carried out by V. Dahl EUNU for further studies before the second semester of the first year of study.
The Admissions Committee considers applications and documents of applicants and decides upon admission to participation in the competitive selection for admission to study at V. Dahl EUNU within three working days from the date of registration of the application in the Single base or the results of entrance examinations, but not later than the date preceding the announcement of the rating list of applicants indicating recommendations for admission. Publication of relevant decisions is made on the website (https://snu.edu.ua/?page_id=5093).
8. Foreign Students Training
Admission of foreign citizens is based on international agreements of Ukraine with other countries and on the basis of agreements (contracts) with international organizations, companies and foreign citizens in the way stipulated by “Regulations on Admission of Foreigners and Persons without Citizenship to Higher Educational Institutions” approved by Decree of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine of September 5, 1998 №1238.
Training is carried out according to Ukrainian multilevel scheme – bachelor; specialist, master; PhD. Foreign citizens, having obtained qualifications of bachelor or master in foreign countries, who want to continue their education in Ukraine, should undergo the procedure of recognition (nostrification examination) of certificates of education according to Order of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine of May 28, 2012 No. 632). Bachelor programme studies last 4 years, specialist and master studies – 1, 1.5 or 2 years.
Foreign Ukrainians who are sent to study by Ukrainian national cultural societies, during admission to Volodymyr Dahl EUNU have the same rights to education as citizens of Ukraine, with the exceptions established by the Constitution of Ukraine, laws of Ukraine or international treaties ratified by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
Foreigners and persons without citizenship staying in Ukraine legally have the right to higher education, except for the right to higher education at the expense of the State budget of Ukraine and local budgets, unless otherwise stipulated by international treaties ratified by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, laws or agreements between higher educational institutions concerning international academic mobility.
Foreigners who have received completed secondary education in foreign schools with the Ukrainian language, and foreign Ukrainians with relevant documents proving this status are admitted to V. Dahl EUNU within set quotas based on the interview on subjects stipulated by the Admissions Rules to Volodymyr Dahl East Ukrainian National University (hereinafter – Admissions Rules) on recommendations of national cultural Ukrainian societies and Ukrainian diplomatic missions abroad.
Admission of foreigners for studies is based on:
-International treaties of Ukraine;
-Agreements concluded between V. Dahl EUNU and legal bodies and individuals.
Admission of foreigners for studies under international agreements and national programmes is carried out in accordance with these documents.
Application is carried out from 15 July to 15 November 2016; enrolment (based on enrolment orders being verified in the Single state electronic database on education) – not later than November 15, 2016.
Foreigners submit to the Admissions Committee of Volodymyr Dahl East Ukrainian National University (hereinafter – the Admissions Committee) the following documents:
• application form;
• original and copy of the document confirming previous education;
• original and copy of the document (supplement to certificate of education), which contains information about an applicant's academic performance;
• copy of birth certificate;
• medical health certificate, verified by an official health authority of the country from which the foreigner has come and issued not later than two months before leaving for study in Ukraine;
• copy of the passport of a foreigner or a document certifying a person without citizenship;
• valid health insurance (except for foreigners who have come from countries with which agreements on free emergency medical care are signed);
• six 60×40 (mm) photos;
• copy of the certificate of foreign Ukrainian (if applicable).
One of the conditions for enrolment of a foreigner to obtain a certain educational level (educational qualification) is possession of the language of the study course at a level sufficient for learning, as evidenced by the conclusion of the Admissions Committee.
Foreigners, for which the Admissions Committee determines the need for language training before the start of basic training, have such training are at the preparatory department of V. Dahl EUNU.
Training of foreigners is carried out in full-time and part-time (distance) modes of study on the basis of documents of previous education, received no earlier than 10 years before the date of application to V. Dahl EUNU (except applications for admission to post-graduate and doctoral studies).
Transfer of foreigners from V. Dahl EUNU to any other university in Ukraine is carried out in coordination between institutions.
Foreigners, who apply for post-graduate studies, also submit an abstract on the chosen scientific speciality or a list of published scientific works and inventions officially certified at the place of work / training of the candidate.
For admission to doctoral studies, an applicant must also submit:
• thematic plan of the thesis for the scientific degree of “Doctor of Sciences”;
• copy of diploma awarding a relevant scientific degree.
The documents referred to in subparagraphs 2-4 of this paragraph shall be translated into the Ukrainian language with notarization of translation. The documents must be certified in the country of issue in a way that is officially used in this country for such procedures, and legalized by the relevant foreign diplomatic institutions of Ukraine, unless otherwise provided by international treaties of Ukraine.
Foreigners, who complete the studies, defend their thesis project (work), pass the state examinations in accordance with the requirements of educational training programmes, by the decision of Examination Commission are assigned with the appropriate educational level (qualification) and the diploma of state standard, legalized according to the laws of Ukraine.
Training conditions (payment, living conditions, etc.) during academic mobility programmes are defined in each case in particular. Student mobility (including semester and academic year studies) carried out in the framework of inter-university cooperation agreements, is free of charge.

Every student of Volodymyr Dahl East Ukrainian National University can get advice on any issue through information page “Students” on the University website (https://snu.edu.ua/) and on sites of faculties, institutes and departments. A student can get addressed answers to specific questions by contacting the rector, vice-rectors, deans of faculties, directors of institutes, heads of University departments via e-mail or telephone. II. General Information for Students
1. Accommodation and Meals
The university has 3 dormitories of total area of 8,132.9 m2 for students. Non-resident first-year students have preferences while providing places in the dormitory. Dormitories are provided with the Internet access.
All buildings of the University have catering facilities of a total area of 595.8 m2 with 372 seats. In addition, the University is close to a range of private cafes, restaurants and canteens.
2. Medical Support
There are three first-aid posts for students, teachers and staff on the territory of the University. First-aid posts are equipped with all the necessary equipment in accordance with current regulations. Students can get financial aid for treatment, if necessary. The university has a programme of gradual adjustment of educational facilities to the needs of students with special needs.
3. Financial Support for Students
Students, whose studies are financed by the state budget and who successfully pass semester control, in case of appropriate rating are provided with a monthly scholarship. Currently the amount of scholarship is 825 hryvnias for a common scholarship and 925 hryvnias – enhanced scholarship. If necessary, students may get a one-time financial aid. Students who show outstanding results in their studies, social work, sports can get a premium, usually in the amount of scholarship. The University has a number of special scholarship programmes. These are scholarships named after outstanding scientists, scholarship of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, President of Ukraine and others.
4. Conditions for Studying
Volodymyr Dahl East Ukrainian National University is a powerful set of educational and industrial facilities, which creates favourable conditions for studying. There are over 9 buildings, dozens of laboratories, three libraries, computer laboratories. There is an active reconstruction and renovation of lecture halls in accordance with modern requirements. In order to expand the library fund, the University has signed an agreement with JSC “Severodonetsk Azot Association” and State Research and Design Institute “Himtehnolohiya” for information and patent service.
University sports facilities include its own closed gyms for athletics, table tennis, fitness and shaping, and closed gyms of municipal sports committee on the basis of appropriate rental contracts, and an outdoor playground with a total area of over 12,500 m2.
5. International Programmes
Volodymyr Dahl East Ukrainian National University was the first university in Luhansk oblast, which became a full partner of the Erasmus Mundus “HERMES” project. The project “HERMES” allows students, teachers and researchers to study or undertake internships at the best European universities for free. The project will last for 4 years, total funding is 2,299,375 euros.
Our university is a national coordinator in Ukraine of the TEMPUS project “Leadership and Change Management in Higher Education”, which aims to identify existing leadership skills and management models in higher educational institutions of the partner countries; analyse the effective methods of cooperation with changes that promote modernization at the institutional level; implement a system of effective administrative changes of European universities at universities in the partner countries; create transformational leadership potential of senior management at universities of the partner countries; promote transnational cooperation and joint problem-solving among experts, managers of partner countries and other stakeholders in higher education, and intensify leadership initiatives among students; develop and maintain new strategy for change management, contributing to modernization of higher education in the partner countries.
Volodymyr Dahl East Ukrainian National University has an important role in the TEMPUS project «Fostering Knowledge Triangle in Belarus, Ukraine and Moldova", which aims at forming a system of knowledge in the heads of higher educational institutions of Belarus, Moldova and Ukraine on modern approaches to organization and knowledge management, detailed analysis of conditions that create barriers to effective integration process of higher education, research and innovation in the partner countries.
Volodymyr Dahl East Ukrainian National University together with the University of Information Technology and Management in Rzeszów (Poland) offer students to participate in the programme of double diplomas. According to this programme, students of V. Dahl EUNU have an opportunity to take a course at the Polish University to obtain two diplomas: V. Dahl EUNU and the University of Information Technology and Management in Rzeszów. The programme allows obtaining high-quality European education in favourable learning environment, to become highly qualified specialists in the chosen profession and gain advantage in the international labour market.
6. Conditions for Sports and Leisure Activities
An important place at the University is occupied by promotion of healthy lifestyle among students, organization of physical education, various sports activities and competitions. The students have closed gyms for athletics, table tennis, fitness and shaping, and municipal closed gyms on the basis of appropriate rental contracts, and an outdoor playground with a total area of over 12,500 m2. Qualified coaches contribute to students acquiring proper physical forms, attracting to participation in various sports sections. Table tennis, shaping, aerobics are especially popular with students. There are annual competitions among students of faculties and institutes in many sports.
Volodymyr Dahl East Ukrainian National University has all conditions for physical and spiritual development. In the city cultural centre, there are held contests “Mr. University” and “Miss University”, meetings of the Club of Cheerful and Sharp-Witted. There are sports grounds in dormitories. For leisure time, there is a Student Club with various sections, organizing parties and other cultural events.
7. Student Organizations
The student self-government body of Volodymyr Dahl East Ukrainian National University is the highest executive body of the student self-government of the University, which operates in the interests of the University students, protecting their rights and interests (room 111 educational building; e-mail: email@example.com).
The student self-government is a team of young and ambitious, motivated and full of energy, cheerful and open to dialogue students, diversifying the student life, making it vivid and memorable, developing and implementing new projects and solving students' problems.
The main tasks of the student self-government are:
• ensuring and protecting rights and interests of students;
• promoting learning, research and creative activities of students;
• promoting formation of students' moral and ethical qualities, education of patriotism;
• promoting healthy lifestyle;
• promoting better standards of living and leisure of students;
• promoting creation of various student groups, societies, associations, clubs and coordination of their activities;
• promoting cooperation with the student self-government bodies of other higher educational institutions;
• promoting information, psychological, financial, legal and other assistance to students.
The self-government bodies are working in different areas: scientific, educational, sports, cultural, charitable and information. Much attention is paid to holding conferences, seminars and “round tables”, competitions and workshops.
One of the main activity areas of the student self-government is establishing cooperation with other educational institutions both in Ukraine and abroad.
