Olena Kozmenko, Professor of the Department of Foreign Philology and Translation at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, received a personal invitation to participate as an expert on higher education in the International Conference “Education of Ukrainian children and youth: best practices and ways forward”. The event was held in Riga (Latvia) and was organized by the Stockholm School of Economics in Riga with the assistance of international organizations and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.
This conference brought together politicians, scholars and non-governmental organizations from all over Europe who are interested in the integration of displaced Ukrainians.
Speakers on this issue included Kristine Nidre-Later, Deputy State Secretary for General Education and State Language Policy at the Ministry of Education and Science (Latvia), Sigridur Vilhjalmdsdottir, Head of the Department of Education at Oslo Metropolitan University (Norway), Victoria Prytulaka, founder and director of the Center for Ukrainian Studies in Latvia, and others. The second discussion drew attention to the experiences and problems of young Ukrainians pursuing higher education in the Baltic States, and discussed support and preferential conditions for Ukrainian refugees.
This conference was organized within the framework of the new project “Network for Ukrainian Displaced Persons Integration”, which was launched to support and integrate Ukrainian displaced persons in the Baltic region and beyond. This initiative is coordinated by the Stockholm School of Economics in Riga, supported by the Bosch Foundation, and aims to create a cohesive platform that brings together business, politicians, academics, and representatives of various sectors for meaningful dialogue and cooperation.
