General information about the department

The Department of Electrical Engineering was created on the basis of the Departments of Electromechanics, Metrology and Instruments, Automated Electromechanical Systems and Electric Drive. The department trains specialists: in the design, research and operation of electromechanical automation systems for objects of various industries; in the development of electromechanical systems with microprocessor control; in the development and operation of power transmission and consumption systems using modern resource and energy-saving technologies. The high level of training of specialists is provided by the teaching staff of the department, consisting of two professors and doctors of sciences and nine associate professors, candidates of technical sciences. The formation of the staff of the department is also carried out by attracting the best own graduates: masters and postgraduates.

History of the department

The Department of Electrical Engineering, according to the orders of the Rector in 2016, included the Department of Electromechanics and the Department of Metrology and Instrumentation, and in 2018 the Department of Automated Electromechanical Systems and Electric Drive of Donbas State Technical University, in connection with its accession to the Volodymyr Dahl East Ukrainian National University. Each of these departments has its own long history.

The Department of Electromechanics is one of the oldest at the university. In 1964, students applied for the specialty “Electrical Machines and Apparatus” for the first time. On May 12, 1967, the Department of Electrical Machines was established (since 2000 – the Department of Electromechanics). Its founder was a wonderful scientist and lecturer, Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor Y. Didorenko, who headed the department until 1970. The first graduation of electromechanical engineers (27 specialists) took place in 1969. In different years, the department was headed by well-known scientists who made a significant contribution to its development.

The Department of Metrology was established in 2007 by dividing the Department of Railway Transport. The first enrollment of students in the specialty “Metrology and measuring equipment” was carried out in 1998. In 2007, a specialized academic council for the defense of candidate dissertations was opened at the department.

The history of the Department of Automated Electromechanical Systems and Electric Drive dates back to 1958 with the establishment of the Department of General Electrical Engineering at Donbas State Technical University (Alchevsk), its founder and first head was Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor A. B. Zelenov (Doctor of Technical Sciences, 1986), a well-known scientist in the field of automated electric drive. The first graduation of electromechanical engineers took place in 1964. For 60 years the department has changed its name many times, developed and grew. A powerful scientific school of optimal relay control of the electric drive was founded at the department, which trained more than 20 candidates and several doctors of sciences.

In the modern conditions of the university’s activity, the teachers of the Department of Electrical Engineering are the heirs of the traditions and values of the departments with a long history, do everything in their power to improve their professional level, as well as to preserve and increase the scientific potential of the department.
