2. Academic calendar

Academic process at the University in full-time and part-time forms of education is conducted on a semester system. The duration of the academic year is 52 weeks. There are 35 academic weeks per year, including 18 in the autumn semester and 17 in the spring semester. 3 weeks are allocated for the test and examination session. Vacations – 11 weeks: 2 weeks in winter, 9 weeks in summer.

4. Overview of the university

Volodymyr Dahl East Ukrainian National University dates back to March 27, 1920, when the first higher educational institution in Donbas to train personnel for machine-building enterprises was established in Luhansk.

The current license gives Volodymyr Dahl East Ukrainian National University the right to conduct educational activities for the training of bachelors in 61 specialties (directions), specialists – in 92 specialties, masters – in 93 specialties. On the basis of complete higher education in the Master’s program of civil service, managerial personnel for public administration bodies are trained in the specialty “Civil Service”. The Center for Advanced Training, Retraining, Improvement according to the license conducts retraining of specialists on the basis of higher education in 45 accredited specialties and 17 areas of training; advanced training of specialists in all accredited specialties at the university and advanced training of teachers.

Volodymyr Dahl East Ukrainian National University is one of the leaders in inventive activity in Ukraine. Currently, the university has 175 patents of the USA, Germany, France, Canada, China and other countries, as well as more than 2000 patents of Ukraine.

Volodymyr Dahl East Ukrainian National University is the first university in the Luhansk region to become a full partner of the Erasmus Mundus HERMES project.

Today Volodymyr Dahl East Ukrainian National University has more than 60 agreements with foreign educational institutions, research and other organizations. Among them are universities and institutes of Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Algeria, Germany, Canada, Finland, France, Hungary, Romania, Japan, USA and other countries (20 countries in total). An example of long-term fruitful cooperation of Volodymyr Dahl East Ukrainian National University is the cooperation with the School of Economics in Bremen (Germany), Sofia Technical University (Bulgaria), Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering and Technology (Pakistan), O. Dubcek University (Slovakia), Otto-von-Guericke University of Magdeburg (Germany) and other educational institutions of the world.

Improving the quality and efficiency of education, combining scientific research and educational process at all levels of training, development of scientific schools, cooperation with world scientific and educational centers and foundations, formation of innovative infrastructure and commercialization of research results are the main priorities of the Volodymyr Dahl East Ukrainian National University, which ensure its authority and recognition now and will increase its prestige in the future.

5. List of study programs offered by the university

Volodymyr Dahl East Ukrainian National University offers a wide range of educational programs at the first level (bachelor’s programs) and at the second level of higher education (specialist and master’s programs). Volodymyr Dahl East Ukrainian National University also trains specialists at the third level of higher education (Doctor of Philosophy) through postgraduate studies and at the scientific level of higher education (Doctor of Science) through doctoral studies. 6. General requirements for enrollment

Admission to the University is carried out by the Admission Committee in accordance with the Admission Rules developed in accordance with the Terms of Admission to Higher Educational Institutions of Ukraine, approved by the relevant order of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine. Detailed information on the conditions of admission to study at the Volodymyr Dahl East Ukrainian National University is available on the University’s website.

7. General registration procedures

He electronic application can be submitted by applicants who participate in the competitive selection on the basis of a certificate of complete general secondary education, certificate (certificates) of external independent evaluation, which was issued in 2016 in competitive subjects in accordance with the Terms and Conditions of admission to Volodymyr Dahl East Ukrainian National University, and have no grounds for special conditions of admission. To submit an electronic application, the applicant must register on the website at http://ez.osvitavsim.org.ua

Applicants for junior bachelor’s degrees, bachelor’s degrees (specialist in pharmacy) on the basis of complete general secondary education on a full-time basis, except for persons who have the right to participate in the competition based on the results of entrance exams on the basis of complete general secondary education (Section VIII of these Rules), admission by interview (Section X of these Rules) and admission by quotas (Section XI of these Rules), submit applications only in electronic form. Applicants can submit up to fifteen applications for five specialties (specializations), which provide admission to the state order for full-time education. Submission of applications for specialties (specializations) for other forms of study, as well as for which admission by state order is not provided, is not limited.

The Admission Committee verifies the accuracy of the data submitted by the applicant for participation in the competitive selection using the Unified Database. If the applicant submits an application in electronic form, the Admission Committee checks the average score of the document on education on the basis of its scanned copy (photocopy).

When enrolling persons who submit a document on a degree (level) of education obtained abroad (hereinafter – the Document), the procedure for recognizing and establishing the equivalence of the Document is mandatory, which is carried out in accordance with the Procedure for Recognition of Degrees of Higher Education Obtained in Foreign Higher Education Institutions, approved by the Order of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine dated May 05, 2015 №504, registered with the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine on May 27, 2015 under №614/27059. The procedure of recognition of the Document for the purpose of continuing education is carried out by the Volodymyr Dahl East Ukrainian National University before the beginning of the second semester of the first year of study of its owner.

The Admission Committee considers the applications and documents of applicants and makes a decision on admission to participate in the competitive selection for admission to study at the Volodymyr Dahl East Ukrainian National University within three working days from the date of registration of the application in the Unified Database or receipt of the results of entrance examinations, but not later than the date preceding the day of announcement of the rating list of applicants indicating those recommended for admission. The relevant decisions are published on the website.

8. Education of foreign students

The admission of foreign citizens to study is carried out on the basis of interstate agreements of Ukraine with other countries, as well as on the basis of agreements (contracts) with international organizations, firms and foreign citizens in the manner prescribed by the “Regulations on the admission of foreigners and stateless persons to study in higher education institutions”, approved by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine on September 5, 1998 №1238.

The training of specialists is carried out according to the multilevel scheme adopted in Ukraine – Bachelor; Specialist, Master; Doctor of Philosophy. Foreign citizens who have been educated in foreign countries at the bachelor’s and master’s level and have expressed a desire to continue their studies in Ukraine, must undergo the procedure of recognition (nostrification examination) of educational documents in accordance with the order of the Ministry of Education and Youth of Ukraine dated 28.05.2012. The bachelor’s program lasts 4 years, at the specialist and master’s level – 1, 1.5 or 2 years.

Foreign Ukrainians who have received a referral for study from Ukrainian national and cultural societies, upon admission to Volodymyr Dahl East Ukrainian National University, enjoy the same rights to education as citizens of Ukraine, with the exceptions established by the Constitution of Ukraine, laws of Ukraine or international treaties ratified by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.

Foreigners and stateless persons who are in Ukraine on legal grounds have the right to higher education, except for the right to higher education at the expense of the State Budget of Ukraine, local budgets, unless otherwise provided by international treaties ratified by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, legislation or agreements between higher education institutions on international academic mobility.

Admission of foreigners to study is carried out on the basis of:
– international treaties of Ukraine;
– national programs;
– agreements concluded by Volodymyr Dahl East Ukrainian National University with legal entities and individuals.

Admission of foreigners to study under international agreements and national programs is carried out in the manner prescribed by these documents.

Acceptance of documents is carried out from July 15 to November 15, 2016; enrollment (on the basis of orders for enrollment, verified in the Unified State Electronic Database on Education) – no later than November 15, 2016.

Foreigners shall submit the following documents to the Admission Committee of the Volodymyr Dahl East Ukrainian National University (hereinafter – the Admission Committee):
1) application form;
2) original and copy of the document on previous education;
3) the original and a copy of the document (appendix to the document on education), which contains information about his performance in academic disciplines;
4) a copy of the birth document;
5) a medical certificate of health, certified by the official health authority of the country from which the foreigner came, and issued no later than two months before departure for study in Ukraine;
6) a copy of the passport document of a foreigner or a document certifying a stateless person;
7) a valid health insurance policy (except for foreigners who come from countries with which agreements on free emergency medical care have been concluded);
8) 6 photographs 60×40 mm in size;
9) copy of the certificate of a foreign Ukrainian (if any).

The condition for enrolling a foreigner to study for a certain educational degree (educational qualification level) is his knowledge of the language of instruction at a level sufficient for the assimilation of educational material, which is confirmed by the conclusion of the Admission Committee.

Foreigners for whom the Admission Committee has established the need for language training before the start of the main study, undergo such training at the preparatory department of Volodymyr Dahl East Ukrainian National University

Education of foreigners is carried out in full-time (full-time) and part-time (distance) forms of education on the basis of documents on previous education, which were received not earlier than 10 years before the date of application for admission to Volodymyr Dahl East Ukrainian National University (except for applications for admission to postgraduate, doctoral, postgraduate education).

Transfer of foreigners from Volodymyr Dahl East Ukrainian National University to another educational institution within Ukraine is carried out by agreement between educational institutions.

Foreigners entering postgraduate studies must additionally submit an abstract on the chosen scientific specialty or a list of published scientific works and inventions officially certified at the candidate’s place of work/study.

For admission to doctoral studies are submitted additionally:

  • thematic plan of the dissertation work for obtaining the scientific degree “Doctor of Sciences”;
  • a copy of the diploma on awarding the relevant scientific degree.

The documents specified in subparagraphs 2-4 of this paragraph shall be translated into Ukrainian with notarization of the translation. The documents must be certified in the country of their issue in the manner officially applied in this country for such certification and legalized by the relevant foreign diplomatic institution of Ukraine, unless otherwise provided by international treaties of Ukraine.

Foreigners who have completed their studies, defended their diploma project (work), passed state examinations in accordance with the requirements of the educational program of training, by the decision of the examination commission are assigned the appropriate educational level (qualification) and issued a state-approved document on education, legalized in accordance with the procedure established by the legislation of Ukraine.

Terms of study (payment, living conditions, etc.) under academic mobility programs are determined in each case in particular. Student mobility (including semester and annual studies), which is carried out within the framework of inter-university Cooperation Agreements, is free of charge.

9. Assignment of ECTS credits (ECTS)

Volodymyr Dahl East Ukrainian National University fully operates the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System. Recognition of academic achievements from other universities is carried out according to the procedures and on the basis of ECTS documents (Student Application Form, Learning Agreement, Academic Transcript).

10. Information about student counseling

Every student of Volodymyr Dahl East Ukrainian National University can get advice on any issue through the information pages “To the Student” posted on the university website (https://snu.edu.ua/) and on the websites of faculties, institutes and departments. Students can get targeted answers to specific questions by contacting the Rector, Vice-Rectors, Deans of Faculties, Directors of Institutes, Heads of University Departments directly by e-mail or by phone. Contact details of all responsible persons and departments of the university are available on the university website. Additionally, contact details of deans of faculties and directors of institutes are posted on the MOODLE system website in the Distance Learning Center.

General information for students

1. Housing and catering

The university has 3 dormitories for students with a total area of about 8132.9 m2. Non-resident first-year students are given preference for places in the dormitory. Internet access is provided in the dormitories.

In all buildings of the University there are catering enterprises with a total area of 595.8 m2 for 372 seats. In addition, there is a range of private cafes, restaurants and canteens near the university.

2. Medical support

There are 3 medical stations on the territory of the university, which serve students, teachers and staff. The medical stations are equipped with all the necessary equipment in accordance with current standards. For treatment, if necessary, students are provided with financial assistance. The university has a program of gradual adaptation of part of the educational premises for the needs of students with special needs.

3. Financial support of students

Students who study at the expense of the state budget and successfully pass the semester control, subject to the appropriate rating, receive a monthly scholarship. The amount of the scholarship at the moment is 825 UAH (regular scholarship) and 925 UAH (increased scholarship). If necessary, students can apply for a one-time financial assistance. Students who show outstanding results in studies, community service, sports can receive a bonus, usually in the amount of the scholarship. The university has a number of special scholarship programs. These are scholarships named after outstanding scientists, scholarship of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, the President of Ukraine, etc.

4. Conditions for training

Volodymyr Dahl East Ukrainian National University is a powerful complex of educational and production facilities, where favorable conditions for studying are created. More than 9 buildings, dozens of laboratories, three libraries, computer laboratories are at the disposal of students. There is an active reconstruction and re-equipment of lecture halls in accordance with modern requirements. In order to expand the library fund, the University has signed an agreement with PJSC “Severodonetsk Azot Association” and the State Research and Design Institute “Khimtechnologiya” for information, library and patent services.

The sports base of the university consists of: own indoor sports halls for athletics, table tennis, fitness and shaping, as well as indoor sports halls of the city sports committee, with which the relevant lease agreements have been concluded, as well as an outdoor sports ground with a total area of more than 12500 m2.

5. International programs

Volodymyr Dahl East Ukrainian National University became the first university in the Luhansk region to become a full partner of the Erasmus Mundus project “HERMES”. The project “HERMES” provides an opportunity for students, teachers and scientists to study or undergo internships at the best European universities absolutely free of charge. The project will last 4 years, the total funding is 2,299,375 euros.

Our university is the national coordinator in Ukraine of the TEMPUS project “Leadership and Change Management in Higher Education”, which aims to identify existing leadership skills and management models in the universities of partner countries; to analyze at the institutional level effective methods of cooperation with changes that contribute to modernization; to introduce a system of effective management changes of European universities in the universities of partner countries; to build transformational leadership capacity of senior management in partner countries’ higher education institutions; to promote transnational cooperation and joint problem-solving among experts, managers of partner countries and other stakeholders in higher education, as well as to intensify leadership initiatives among students; to develop and maintain a context-specific strategy for managing changes that promote modernization in higher education in partner countries.

Volodymyr Dahl East Ukrainian National University plays an important role in the TEMPUS project “Supporting the Knowledge Triangle in Belarus, Ukraine and Moldova”, which aims to form a system of knowledge among the leaders of higher education institutions in Belarus, Moldova and Ukraine about modern approaches to the organization and management of knowledge, a detailed analysis of the conditions that create obstacles to the process of effective integration of higher education, research and innovation in the partner countries.

6. Conditions for sports and leisure activities

An important place in the university is occupied by the promotion of a healthy lifestyle among students, the organization of physical education, various sports activities and competitions. Students have their own indoor sports halls for athletics, table tennis, fitness and shaping, as well as indoor sports halls of the city sports committee, with which the relevant lease agreements have been concluded, as well as an outdoor sports ground with a total area of more than 12500 m2. Qualified trainers-teachers contribute to the acquisition of proper physical form by students, involvement in sports sections in various sports. Table tennis, shaping, aerobics, etc. are especially popular among students. Competitions are held annually among students of faculties and institutes in many sports.

7. The student self-government

The student self-government body of Volodymyr Dahl East Ukrainian National University is the supreme executive body of the student self-government of the University, which carries out activities in the interests of the entire student body of the University, ensures the protection of its rights and interests (auditorium 111 of the University; e-mail: student@snu.edu.ua).

Student Council is a team of young and ambitious, purposeful and full of energy, cheerful and open to dialogue students who diversify student life, make it bright and memorable, develop and implement new projects and do not stay away from student problems. The main tasks of the Student Self-Government are: ensuring and protecting the rights and interests of students; promoting educational, scientific and creative activities of students; promoting the formation of moral and ethical qualities in students, education of patriotism; promoting a healthy lifestyle; promoting the improvement of living and recreation conditions of students; promoting the creation of various student groups, societies, associations, clubs of interest and coordination of their activities; cooperation with the Student Self-Government of other higher education institutions.

Much attention is paid to holding conferences, seminars, trainings, round tables, competitions and master classes. One of the activities of the Student Government is to establish cooperation with other educational institutions in Ukraine and other countries.
