In 2022, 123 publications of Volodymyr Dahl East Ukrainian National University researchers were presented on the pages of Scientific Publishing indexed by Scopus and Web of Science.
Scopus is considered the largest database of peer-reviewed scientific literature, which contains over 82 million documents (scientific peer-reviewed journals, conference proceedings, series book publication, etc.) and grows by 2-3 million new papers annually. During 2022, 75 works of researchers of Volodymyr Dahl East Ukrainian National University were indexed in the scientometric database
The largest number of publications in this base among the scientists of University are by O. Krol, Cand. Sc. (13); O. Romanchenko, Cand. Sc. (6); M. Kovtanets, Cand. Sc. (5); Y. Mykhailov, Cand. Sc. (5) and S. Semenov, Cand. Sc. (5).
The Web of Science platform contains 15 databases, a primary one being the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC), and a total of indexes over 33,000 publications. WOS covers materials in the natural sciences, engineering, social sciences, arts, and humanities. The notation of the Journal to WOS is an indication of its high status in academia. In 2022, the Web of Sciense scientometric database indexed 48 publications by researchers of Volodymyr Dahl East Ukrainian National University. Among the scientists of the University, the largest number has a Doctor of Psychology N. Zavatska (4 publications). Among the authors with 3 publications in the current year are by Dr. O. Kozmenko, Cand. Sc. O. Romanchenko, Dr. V. Tarasov and Cand. Sc. Krol.
Also in 2022, 18 articles were presented in journals indexed in both scientometric databases. Such publications are generally ranked higher, which consequently affects the scientific credibility of the authors. It is important for every scientist to increase the index of citations of his works, Hirsch index, demand for the results of research, preservation of copyright; raising positions in the ratings. Publication activity is a critical component in the assessment (compilation of ratings) of scientists, departments and universities.
The Scientific Library of the Volodymyr Dahl East Ukrainian National University, as one of the branches of work, leads educational activities on scientometric literacy of scientific-pedagogical lecturers, and also implements the function of supporting the university’s publication activity.
Library professionals organize trainings, webinars on working with the scientific citation database and improving the indicators of publication activity of authors, as well as provide consultations on the subject:
- determination of the researcher’s scientometric indicators (number of documents, number of citations, h-index) according to the international scientometric databases Scopus, Web of Science, and the Google Scholar search engine;
- search and selection of scientific journals in accordance with the research topic to publish the results;
- actualization of author’s profiles in scientometric databases;
- registration of source lists according to both DSTU 8302:2015 and one of the popular styles.
On the website of the Scientific Library of Volodymyr Dahl East Ukrainian National University in the section “Help for Scientists” are available special paragraphs containing information on scientometric indicators and tools, information on scientometric databases, instructions for use, etc.
Scientific Library of University are reviewed scientific publications of university researchers in the international databases SCOPUS and Web of Science on a quarterly basis. Furthermore, late in the year, the library presents final monitoring of publication activity of the university’s scientific-pedagogical employees. Such a list for 2022, published recently, can be found on the library’s website.
Today, the publication activity of a university are not only a way of research communication, but also an important indicator of scientific reputation. The level of citation of an author mainly is an indicator of the success of his scientific activity and indicates the relevance of results work, and sequences the effectiveness of the organization in which he conducts his research. Using publications in science citation bases, the activity and relevance of university science is monitored.
