Volodymyr Dahl East Ukrainian National University and VNG International signed a memorandum of understanding. The project will develop Local Recovery Plans for war-affected communities by introducing the principles of transparent, open and accountable governance, modern technologies in the provision of public services and sustainable development approaches to recovery, as well as building the capacity of local government representatives.
The Memorandum envisages cooperation between Volodymyr Dahl East Ukrainian National University and VNG International to achieve the common goal of improving the capacity of local governments to develop and implement local recovery plans in the war-affected areas of Ukraine.
The two organizations will work to strengthen cooperation and partnership, and coordinate efforts by providing their expertise to enhance each other’s strengths and ensure the effectiveness of this partnership. As part of the memorandum, students of the Department of Economics and Entrepreneurship have already been involved as interns in the development of local recovery plans for four communities in Ukraine.
VNG International is the International Cooperation Agency of the Association of Municipalities of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, which has been working to strengthen local governance in Ukraine since 1996. Recently, VNG International launched a project in Ukraine called “Support for the Restoration of Local Self-Government and the Recovery and Reconstruction of Communities in Ukraine”, which is part of the Sustainable Development through Improved Local Governance (SDLG) program funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
