How do you start a dialog with the characters in a story? What to do when people are against being filmed? The answers to these questions were discussed at a lecture by Dr. Andrew Jiarelli, a professor at the Anglo-American University in Prague. The lecture launched the partnership certificate course “Truthful Reporting: Even When It Hurts” from the Volodymyr Dahl East Ukrainian National University and the Public Organization “Student Journalism Platform”.
The lecture, which was held online, was joined by more than forty students from nine other universities in Ukraine.
Dr. Andrew Jiarelli shared with the students his vision of the film “20 Days in Mariupol” as a journalistic work and as a significant phenomenon in world cinema. During the second part of the meeting, the lecturer invited the students to think about the complex ethical issues that journalists face when working with people affected by war.
During the lecture, students asked questions and expressed their own opinions. The lecture and discussion were held in English.
