A study of Uganda’s local government experience

Professor of the Department of Economics and Entrepreneurship, head of the Resource Center for Sustainable Development Inna Semenenko visited Uganda as part of the training event of the Program “Sustainable Development through Improved Local Governance (SDLG)”.

The Sustainable Development through Improved Local Governance (SDLG) Program learning event explores and discusses issues such as sustainable development, security and rule of law, migration and displacement, generation of own sources of income and local economic development. The event was organized by the International Cooperation Agency of the Association of Municipalities of the Netherlands (VNG International) and was held in Arua (Uganda).

As part of the visit, Inna Semenenko visited Mooney University, which is involved in research on solving problems of local governance, migration and economic development in the West Nile region and Uganda in general, the refugee settlement of the Democratic Republic of Congo and South Sudan, which is located in the Koboko community.

In particular, key issues related to the integration of the displaced population into the local community, their employment, sustainable economic development of the community as a whole, taking into account the potential of displaced persons, were discussed. Inna Semenenko shared the experience of displaced institutions and population in Ukraine and the problems of restoring economic activity in communities.
