Opening remarks about the Department
The Department of Psychology and Sociology trains specialists in the first (bachelor’s), second (master’s), third (educational and scientific) levels of higher education, full-time and part-time forms of study in the specialty 053 Psychology (field of knowledge 05 Social and Behavioral Sciences), educational program “Psychology”.
General information about the department
The Department of Psychology and Sociology trains specialists in modern educational programs in the specialty 053 Psychology at the first (bachelor’s), second (master’s), third (educational and scientific) levels of higher education, full-time and part-time forms of education (field of knowledge 05 Social and Behavioral Sciences).
Alumni may work in the following professional fields education, both secondary and vocational, and higher education (psychologist, social educator, teacher of psychological disciplines); health care and social support (psychological rehabilitation centers, drug treatment centers, psychiatric clinics, centers for medical and psychological expertise, baby homes, homes for the disabled, etc; sports (psychologist in sports teams, psychological support for athletes and coaches); enterprises and organizations (recruitment and placement of personnel, ensuring a favorable social and psychological climate in the workforce, formation and psychological support of the organization’s image, formation of a management team, training employees in psychological skills in the field of promotion of goods and services, psychological support for the formation of advertising images of goods and services); individual services (psychological counseling and psychocorrection in the field of interpersonal relations at work, in the family, in personal life, overcoming psychological causes of somatic diseases, as recent scientific research has confirmed that any disease begins with psychological aspects and is completely cured only when they are eliminated; in the field of personal growth and development of professionally important qualities, etc. The main tasks of the department are: providing the conditions necessary for a person to receive higher psychological education, training highly qualified specialists for the needs of the region and the state as a whole; conducting educational, methodological, scientific and organizational work in accordance with the training programs for specialists in various specialties of the university and the department’s profile. The work of the department is aimed at improving the existing forms and types of classes with higher education students in accordance with modern requirements for training and within the competency-based approach to form key competencies. The department’s staff consists of highly qualified teachers with basic psychological education, academic degrees and academic titles. The Department has 10 teachers, including 5 Doctors of Psychology, Professors, 3 Candidates of Psychology, Associate Professors, 1 Senior Lecturer and 1 Assistant with a basic psychological education. Teachers of the department systematically improve their professional skills and take advanced training courses and internships (including international ones), participate in national and international conferences, have publications in professional and periodical scientific journals, including international ones and those indexed by various scientometric databases. The Department of Psychology and Sociology systematically organizes All-Ukrainian scientific and practical conferences (with international participation), namely: “Socio-Psychological Problems of Gender Stratification of Society”, “Socio-Psychological Problems of Transformation of Modern Society”, which result in the publication of conference proceedings. There is a University Mediation Center (headed by O. H. Losievska) and a psychological educational and scientific consulting laboratory. The Department maintains scientific relations with many educational and research institutions in Ukraine and abroad. Cooperation agreements have been concluded and are being implemented with various enterprises and organizations, including secondary schools No. 4, 5, 6, 8, 15, 17, 18, 20 of the city. Sievierodonetsk in Luhansk Oblast, the Main Department of the Pension Fund of Ukraine in Luhansk Oblast, the HOPE Worldwide Ukraine Charity Foundation, the Luhansk Oblast Employment Center, the Collegium of Polygraph Examiners of Ukraine, the Main Department of the National Police in Luhansk Oblast, Luhansk Oblast Orphanage No. 2, the Main Department of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in Luhansk Oblast, PJSC State Savings Bank of Ukraine, the SOS Children’s Village International Charitable Foundation, etc. A wide range of cooperation agreements and practice bases enables higher education students to improve their professional skills in various fields of psychology.
The methodological work of the department is aimed at creating educational and methodological complexes of disciplines in accordance with modern requirements for training.
Teachers of the department conduct research in the following main areas:
- personal factors of social and psychological adaptation of freshmen to the conditions of higher education institutions;
- psychology of the anticipatory strategy of personal behavior in a situation of life changes;
- psychological features of the offender’s value system;
- psychological principles of changing the social and normative behavior of the individual;
- cognitive factors of suicidal behavior of adolescents;
- psychology of development of communicative competencies of professionalism of a future humanitarian specialist;
- socio-psychological factors of overcoming post-traumatic stress disorders in young people in modern society;
- socio-psychological principles of development of personality anticipation in the conditions of life changes;
- psychological factors of personality resocialization in conditions of social isolation;
- socio-psychological bases of personal and professional adaptation of specialists of socionomic profile;
- social and psychological conditions of students’ adaptation to studying in higher educational institutions of humanitarian profile;
- emotional and value attitude to the leader in the structure of managerial interaction;
- socio-psychological factors of aggressive behavior of youth in the Internet; socio-psychological bases of youth reintegration in the conditions of modern society
The social and professional activities of the department are aimed at providing psychological support, shaping the image of politicians and party leaders, participating in crisis management, providing psychological assistance to athletes and coaches, working with businesses and organizations in the selection and placement of personnel, creating a favorable socio-psychological climate in the workplace, shaping and providing psychological support for the organization’s image, forming a management team, training employees in psychological skills related to the promotion of goods and services, and providing psychological support in the development of advertising images for products and services. The department also interacts with psychological rehabilitation centers, drug treatment centers, psychiatric clinics, medical-psychological evaluation centers, baby homes, homes for disabled people, and other similar institutions.
History of the department
Department of Psychology and Sociology as a basic structural subdivision of the University was established by the order of the Rector Prof. O. V. Porkuian on August 8, 2016 after the relocation of East Ukrainian National University to Sievierodonetsk, Luhansk region, but has a long history. It combined the departments of psychology and sociology of the university. Each of these departments had existed for more than 20 years. The Department of Psychology was established as part of the University on July 3, 1998 by Viktoriia Tretiachenko, Doctor of Psychology, Professor, Honored Worker of Science and Technology of Ukraine. The first enrollment of students majoring in Psychology took place in 1999. The educational process was provided by such specialists as L.V. Vereina, S.D. Ivanova, V.D. Telis, O.O. Levchenko, N.E. Zavatska, S.O. Harkavets, P.P. Skliar, Y.O. Bokhonkova, O.H. Losievska, O.V. Litvinova, V.O. Tretyachenko, OM. Levchenko, O. O. Mitichkina, L. V. Bokhanova, V. Levchenko, N. Provotorova, O. Peleshenko and many other specialists.
For many years, the staff of the department has been developing state budget topics, including: “Culture and professionalism of socio-psychological innovative technologies in higher education”, “Formation of psychological features of tender relations and tender behavior of student youth”, “Socio-psychological support of innovative technologies in the educational process of higher education”, “Socio-psychological mechanisms of teaching in higher education with new innovative technologies”, “Psychology of social crisis”.
Until 2014, the department trained psychologists in Yevpatoria, Feodosia and Anthracite departments of the university.
During the years of its existence, the department’s scientists have prepared and published a large number of monographs, textbooks, a professional collection of scientific works “Theoretical and Applied Problems of Psychology”, which published articles by specialists of the region, doctoral students, postgraduate students of Volodymyr Dahl East Ukrainian National University and higher education institutions of Ukraine, as well as scientists in the field of psychology in the areas of “Educational Psychology”, “Psychology of Education”, “Management Psychology”, “Social Psychology”, “Clinical and Pathopsychology”, “Co
Throughout all the years of its existence, the department has confidently occupied a worthy place in the structure of the university, is engaged in active research and publishing activities, expands international cooperation, joining the processes of educational and scientific European integration. Head of the Department: Yuliia Bokhonkova, Doctor of Psychology, Professor.
She has been working at the University since 1999. She graduated from Luhansk Taras Shevchenko State Pedagogical Institute in 1998 with a degree in Psychology and a master’s degree in Psychology. Candidate of Psychology since 2005. She defended her dissertation at the meeting of the Specialized Academic Council D 26.453.01 at the G.S. Kostiuk Institute of Psychology of the National Academy of Educational Sciences of Ukraine specialty 19.00.05 – social psychology; psychology of social work. She defended her dissertation for the degree of Doctor of Psychology in 2013 at the Dissertation Council D 26.453.01 at the same institute.
He was awarded the academic title of Professor of the Department of Psychology in 2015. Member of the Council of Young Scientists at the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, section “Actual problems of pedagogy, psychology and sociology; integration into the European scientific and educational space; social and psychological rehabilitation of servicemen from the places of military conflicts, families of the wounded and the dead; support for gifted youth and the formation of a modern worldview, moral and civic position in children”. Deputy Chairman (member of the Presidium) of the Scientific and Sectoral Council of the Volodymyr Dahl East Ukrainian National University. Member of the university trade union committee. Deputy Chairman of the Dissertation Council D 29.051.11 with the right to accept for consideration and defend dissertations for the degree of Doctor (Candidate) of Psychological Sciences in the specialty 19.00.05 – Social Psychology; Psychology of Social Work. Member of the editorial board of the international scientific journal “VIRTUS” (Montreal, Canada) (registered in the scientometric databases Google Scholar, RecearchBib), scientific journal “Personality Psychology” (professional, registered in the scientometric database Index Copernicus, category B, founder of the Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University), collection of scientific papers “Society and Personality in Modern Communication Discourse” (Zaporizhzhia), collections of materials of scientific conferences “Socio-Psychological Problems of Transformation of Modern Society” and “Socio-Psychological Problems of Gender Stratification of Society” (Volodymyr Dahl East Ukrainian National University).
She has more than 200 scientific papers, 7 of which are indexed in the Scopus and WoS databases. She is the supervisor of 2 doctoral and 6 PhD theses.
She is a member of the Ukrainian Psychological Association (Kyiv). Member of the jury of the competition-defense of works of the Small Academy of Sciences of Pupils, section “Chemistry, Biology”.
Research interests: effective technologies for increasing the level of adaptability of student youth; problems of the anticipatory strategy of personality behavior in terms of its psychological foundations; understanding of human behavior patterns; life and professional path of a person; psychology of higher education.

Scientific research at the department is carried out in the following areas: “Psychological referents of social design in higher education” and “Strategies of personal behavior in the situation of life changes: the system “teacher – student””. Interuniversity and all-Ukrainian scientific conferences with international participation are held: “Social and Psychological Problems of Transformation of Modern Society”, “Social and Psychological Problems of Gender Stratification of Society”, “Social and Psychological Determinants of Personal Culture in the Context of Globalization of Educational Space”; scientific seminar “Social and Psychological Support and Scientific and Methodological Support of Innovative Technologies in the Educational Process of Higher Education”, scientific and practical seminar “Social and Psychological Problems of Violence in Modern Society”. The main directions of research work of the department’s teachers and young scientists (graduate students and doctoral students)
– searching for modern forms of science integration that ensure the practical implementation of psychotherapeutic approaches to the formation and development of a modern personality; – creating conditions for increasing the efficiency and expanding the practical use of the achievements of psychotherapeutic and psychocorrectional work in the scientific and practical activities of psychologists;
– conceptual development and practical implementation of psychological, psychotherapeutic and psycho-counseling principles of mental health of university students;

General information about the department
The Department of Human Health and Physical Education united the educational and scientific schools of physical rehabilitation and education, human health and sports due to its creation on the basis of the departments of physical education and human problems and health philosophy. The department trains specialists in the following specialties: 227 “Physical therapy; occupational therapy” in the field of knowledge 22 “Health care”. The department teaches a large number of disciplines; teachers have experience in a number of specialties in physical education, sports and human health and physical rehabilitation. The main goal of the department is to master the methods of health restoration; means of environmental rehabilitation of a person and his/her environment; means of forming a systemic outlook, expanding the network of training of a person in both physical and psychosocial rehabilitation.
History of the department
The Department of Human Health and Physical Education has a long and complex history. It combines the departments of Physical Education and Human Problems and Health Philosophy. Each of these departments had its own history of formation lasting for decades.

Scientific work
The scientific work of the Department of Human Health and Physical Education covers a wide range of interests in the field of physical culture education, healthy lifestyles, and careful attitude towards personal and public health in Ukraine. The faculty members of the department conduct scientific research in the following areas: psychosomatic regulation of human functional systems, socio-psychological factors of subjective well-being of the individual, psychological conditions for social rehabilitation of individuals with adaptation disorders, complex psychophysiological control in the system of long-term sports training, the influence of physical loads of different intensities on the metabolic and immune status of athletes, research on changes in the cardiovascular system and lipid peroxidation during heavy physical exertion and their correction.
