An introductory seminar on integrating cybersecurity courses into the curricula of Ukrainian universities was held as part of the cooperation between the faculty of the Volodymyr Dahl East Ukrainian National University’s Faculty of Information Technology and Electronics and the U.S. Civilian Research and Development Foundation (CRDF Global).
Given the importance of cybersecurity issues, especially in wartime, in 2023, CRDF Global continues to work with Ukrainian universities to develop their cybersecurity education capacity through a curriculum development initiative. To this end, existing cybersecurity programs will be adapted and integrated into the curricula of newly identified new Ukrainian partner universities. The selected Ukrainian universities will work closely with a designated Ukrainian cybersecurity expert and mentors (faculty) from universities that have been involved in the development of cybersecurity courses to select the most appropriate course(s) from the seven existing ones and integrate them into the curricula of the new Ukrainian partner universities.
The purpose of the introductory workshop is to introduce the representatives of the newly engaged Ukrainian partner universities to the experience of developing cybersecurity courses, to present the existing cybersecurity courses that were developed with the support of the U.S. Department of State and in partnership with Purdue University (USA), to discuss further cooperation on integrating these courses into the curricula of the new Ukrainian partner universities, and to formulate a plan for such cooperation.
The seminar was held on the Zoom platform. As part of the seminar, Professor of the Department of Information Technology and Programming Oleh Zakhozhai and Dean of the Faculty of Information Technology and Electronics Serhii Mytrokhin presented the course “Cybersecurity in the aspect of informatization and digitalization of society” developed by them. Last year, this course was already integrated into the curricula of two Ukrainian universities. This year, thanks to the support of CRDF Global, the course is to be integrated into the curricula of two new Ukrainian partner universities.
