Employees of the Department of Chemical Engineering and Ecology of the Volodymyr Dahl East Ukrainian National University, Acting Head of the Department, Associate Professor Inna Kravchenko, Associate Professor Yevhen Zubtsov joined the Columbia Climate School and took part in the online seminar “Blazing Temperatures, Broken Records: Responding to the Global Heat Crisis”.
The school brings together scientists from fields such as earth sciences, engineering and architecture, along with those studying economics, law, health, business, politics, the arts and humanities to address this most pressing challenge and understand the complexity of climate and its implications for society.
Together with experts Diana Hernández, Radley Horton, Cecilia Sorensen, the seminar participants discussed the latest research on how to prevent climate catastrophe.
The research notes that the summer of 2022, which brought record heat waves, heat-related deaths around the world, widespread drought, devastating wildfires, and heavy rains, is considered the hottest on record. Scientists agree that without active intervention, the world will face an escalating crisis with even more deadly heat, humidity and climate impacts. The online seminar was dedicated to considering the possibility of preventing this climate catastrophe.
