Journalistic ethics is important!

Teachers of the Department of Journalism and Ukrainian Studies took part in a practical discussion on the topic: “Journalism Education in Ukraine: Challenges of Teaching Standards and Ethics to Future Media Professionals”.

The event was organized by the Commission on Journalism Ethics, which is a partner of our university. The event was attended by well-known scholars and media professionals:

Andrii Kulikov, Ukrainian journalist, editor, TV presenter, Chairman of the Commission on Journalistic Ethics since 2017.

Oleksii Pohorelov, media manager, President of the Ukrainian Media Business Association, member of the Public Councils at the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Humanitarian and Information Policy.

Tetiana Lebedieva, public activist and media manager, member of the Presidential Council on Freedom of Speech and Protection of Journalists.

Diana Dutsyk, Honored Journalist of Ukraine, PhD in Philology, member of the Council on Freedom of Speech and Protection of Journalists since 2019.

The experts discussed the results of a survey of journalism teachers conducted by the Ilko Kucheriv Democratic Initiatives Foundation in cooperation with the Commission on Journalism Ethics and with the support of UNESCO, as well as the new Journalism Ethics Manual.

During the meeting, important issues of acquiring skills in the field of media education were raised, namely how to teach students to apply the norms of journalistic ethics under martial law, use artificial intelligence without violating ethical standards of professional activity, avoid hate speech, etc. One of the speakers was Svitlana Kuzmina, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences.
