An online meeting was held between representatives of the departments of Volodymyr Dahl East Ukrainian National University and its sister university Royal Holloway University of London, UK, with a similar profile. The event was held within the framework of the international project “Twinning Initiative” between universities.
The meeting was held in the format of a roundtable discussion on “The Concept of Creativity and Translation” in the areas of comparative literature and translation studies.
Royal Holloway University of London was represented by Professor Richard Alston, Director of the Institute of Humanities and the Arts, and professors of the Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures Emily Jeremiah, Hannah Thompson and Nick Lowe.
Volodymyr Dahl East Ukrainian National University was represented by leading lecturers of the Translation Section of the Department of Foreign Languages and Translation, Associate Professors Olha Taranenko and Iryna Afonina and Lecturer Kyrylo Ihoshev.
The meeting focused on the concepts of creativity in translation, the role of the translator as an agent of creative action, and strategies for creativity in literary translation. Particular emphasis was placed on the representation of Ukrainian authors in English translations, conceptual analysis, and the use of transcreation as a translation method of combining textual and visual images in modern society.
