Olena Arsentieva, Dean of the Law School, took part in the international conference “Battlefield Ukraine: Exploring War and Justice”. The event was organized by the Law School of Mykolas Romeris University and brought together scholars from European universities and institutions and Ukrainian colleagues.
The Republic of Lithuania is among at least 20 states that conduct investigations using the universal jurisdiction mechanism and was one of the first to organize the establishment of an international joint investigation team in March 2022 and has been a vocal advocate of support for Ukraine.
The issues discussed included the following:
- bringing Vladimir Putin to justice through his immunity;
- – protection of energy and critical infrastructure facilities;
- – protection of the environment by blowing up the Novo-Kakhovka Dam;
- – the status of private military companies (Wagner and others);
- – forced passportization in the occupied territories;
- – assessment of the responsibility of the Russian Federation for its activities in the waters around the occupied Crimea, etc.
