Holocaust and international law

Representatives of the academic community of the Volodymyr Dahl East Ukrainian National University Law Faculty co-organized and took an active part in the International Scientific Conference dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide: “Challenges of Punishment for the Holocaust, Genocide and the Protection of Human Rights” (Tbilisi, Georgia).

The participants of the conference focused their speeches on the impact of the Holocaust on the formation of the doctrine and practice of international law on the prevention of the crime of genocide, the peculiarities of defining and punishing it, and the reflection of this phenomenon in the international legal consciousness.

The conference covered the development of international law in the context of understanding the concept of the Holocaust; retrospective responsibility in the context of genocide crimes; the current state of interpretation of the Holocaust through law and politics.

The conference was attended by representatives of the Faculty of Law and Diplomacy of Sukhumi State University, the Faculty of Law of the University of Ljubljana (Slovenia), and the Human Security Program of the University of Tokyo (Japan).
