Volodymyr Dahl East Ukrainian National University on the way to restoring the de-occupied territories

By the order of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, Volodymyr Dahl East Ukrainian National University has been designated as critical for the functioning of the economy and ensuring the livelihoods of the population during a special period.

The outbreak of a large-scale war in February 2022 forced the university to make its second relocation. At present, according to the Order of the Ministry of Education and Science, the university has been relocated to Kyiv. All faculties, structural subdivisions and services of the university are working in full. The educational process takes place both offline and online (through the e-campus system).

Volodymyr Dahl East Ukrainian National University holds leading positions in global and national rankings. In particular, in 2023, Volodymyr Dahl East Ukrainian National University was included in the global international ranking “QS EUROPE UNIVERSITY RANKINGS-2024”. The high level of scientific research is confirmed by the annual increase in the number of indexed publications in the publications included in the Scopus and Web of Science. The development of science and innovation at the university is aimed at addressing the urgent needs of the country’s defense industry and at launching a post-war program of reconstruction and innovative transformation of Luhansk region and Ukraine as a whole.

The University is an implementer of international technical assistance projects: “Revitalizing Displaced Universities: Strengthening Competitiveness, Supporting Communities” (funded by the EU Commission under the EU Support for Eastern Ukraine agreement); “Cybersecurity of Ukraine’s Critical Infrastructure” (funded by the US Government through the US Agency for International Development); “Economic Support for Ukraine” (funded by the US Government through the US Agency for International Development). Volodymyr Dahl East Ukrainian National University is the exclusive partner of USAID in Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts in the implementation of the project “Revitalizing Higher Agricultural Education in Eastern Ukraine”.

In 2023, the university became a partner in the implementation of the international research project HEI4S3-RM of the Horizon Europe Program in building innovation and research capacity for higher education in the European Education Area.

One of the largest areas of the university’s work is the physical rehabilitation of servicemen after the war. The university trains future rehabilitation specialists who will provide quality physical and psychological assistance to the victims. For this purpose, the Center for Physical Rehabilitation is being created.

The designation of Volodymyr Dahl East Ukrainian National University as critical for the functioning of the economy and the livelihoods of the population during this special period is a strategic signal to the staff and students of Volodymyr Dahl East Ukrainian National University, all Ukrainian citizens who have left their homes but are eager to return and fully restore Ukraine in the de-occupied territories.
