Olena Kozmenko, Professor of the Department of Foreign Philology and Translation, represented the University at the International Scientific and Practical Conference “Strengthening Democracy through Education: Conceptual and Practical Perspectives” held at the University of Tallinn (Estonia).
The event brought together more than 100 scholars from different European countries to exchange views on the possibilities of strengthening modern democratic citizenship through education.
The conference discussed the issue of democratic citizenship as the ability of citizens to act responsibly as autonomous democratic agents. This is becoming an increasingly urgent need due to the crises in Europe. Many challenges put pressure on the democratic system and citizens. Strengthening education for democracy is one of the ways to respond to these challenges.
