On October 27–29, 2026, at the Wrocław University of Technology, representatives of an international consortium—which also includes the Volodymyr Dahl East Ukrainian National University—held their next on-site meeting, during which they learned about Poland’s experience with institutional accreditation and the development of an internal quality assurance system in higher education institutions.
The participants established the main conceptual foundations for the introduction of institutional accreditation in Ukraine, namely:
- institutional accreditation is a voluntary initiative of a higher education institution that has developed a robust internal system for ensuring educational quality and promotes the principles of a culture of quality among students and the academic community;
- if a university successfully completes institutional accreditation for its entire term of validity, it monitors the quality of its educational programs on its own, without the need to undergo an external accreditation process for those programs;
- the institutional accreditation procedure may be applied to higher education institutions that, at the time of application, have a vast majority of successfully accredited educational programs.
The meeting participants also discussed potential challenges and opportunities in implementing significant changes to Ukraine’s higher education system related to institutional accreditation.
Future plans include developing a set of criteria, implementing professional development programs for representatives of Ukrainian higher education institutions on institutional accreditation, and piloting this procedure at Ukrainian higher education institutions.
