Modern journalism as a tool for the development of Ukrainian-Norwegian relations

Amund Miklebust, a Norwegian journalist and member of the Supervisory Board of the NGO Student Journalism Platform, shared his professional experience with first-year students of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of the Volodymyr Dahl East Ukrainian National University. Modern young journalists can change and develop Ukrainian society and develop Ukrainian-Norwegian relations. After all, Norway and Ukraine have common historical roots. This was discussed at the meeting.

The Norwegian journalist focused the youth’s attention on the long-standing Ukrainian-Norwegian ties. “When I see a Ukrainian in Norway or when I come to Ukraine, I always say: “Hello, family!” People are surprised!”

According to him, the Vikings have been a part of Ukraine’s history for 400 successful years. “Kievan Rus was a European state that was feared by some and respected by many. Vikings from all the Nordic countries were part of this community, and we Norwegians are proud to recall our blood ties: our Viking king Harald Hardrada married one of Yaroslav the Wise’s daughters, Elizabeth. She became the Queen of Norway,” says Amund Miklebust.

The guest also urged the present student journalists to adhere to the standards of journalism and professional ethics and to gain practical experience on the #Truthful Reporting website and join the Public Organization “Student Journalism Platform”.

We would like to remind you that the NGO “Student Journalism Platform” is a partner of the Volodymyr Dahl East Ukrainian National University.
