Participation in the discussion on the development of courts in the context of war

Halyna Tatarenko, Head of the Department of Constitutional Law at the Volodymyr Dahl East Ukrainian National University, took part in the International Conference “The Role of the Judiciary in Overcoming the Challenges of War”.

The participants of the event frankly and professionally discussed the state of affairs in the context of the development of the judiciary, challenges in criminal justice in the context of war, possible modalities for the effective protection of civilians’ rights, including compensation for damage, the urgency and possible solutions to the problem of non-enforcement of national court decisions in social cases, the development of the legal education system in Ukraine, the organization of communication between judges of the Supreme Court, the European Court of Human Rights and representatives of the Council of Europe with law students.

The event was organized by the Supreme Court jointly with the Ukrainian Catholic University and the Council of Europe’s Cooperation Programs Division within the framework of the projects “Support to the Judiciary of Ukraine in the Context of War and Post-War Period”, “Strengthening Judicial and Non-Judicial Remedies for Victims of War in Ukraine” and “HELP (Human Rights Education for Lawyers) for Ukraine, including in Time of War”, the OSCE Support Program for Ukraine within the framework of the projects “Support to the Supreme Court and Higher Courts in Implementing Judicial Reform and Ensuring Access to Justice”.
